As the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) calls for more urgent climate action, aiming to halve global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050, an entrepreneur also harbors a great ambition.

“The occurrence of a pandemic made us realize that it’s not just a health crisis; it’s the Earth’s health that’s at stake. We can only save our own world. Every one of us has a responsibility. I’m willing to participate and shoulder this responsibility through my entrepreneurship!” said Lucykle, founder of the sustainable skincare brand “Lucykle” from Taiwan, in an interview with 《The Icons》.

“I am determined to do this, I even changed my name! Just call it Lucykle, a name derived from ‘Recycle,’ indicating my commitment to continuous sustainable practices!”

Renaming Himself and the Brand as Lucykle, He Also Made a Commitment to the World

During a time when a pandemic swept across the globe, causing challenges in various industries, some chose to find opportunities amidst adversity. Lucykle is one such individual. “During this unique period, I decided to create a distinctive brand. This brand not only enhances people’s quality of life but also reminds consumers that how long the Earth accompanies us is actually in our hands!”

Having started from a family background in plastics and gradually transitioning towards selling eco-friendly materials, Lucykle mentioned that the word ‘Recycle’ was ubiquitous since his childhood.

“When naming the brand, I recalled my childhood mispronunciation of ‘Recycle’ as ‘Lucycle,’ and since my surname is Lu, isn’t this a mission? Therefore, I decided to name the brand Lucykle, and also changed my English name to Lucykle, declaring to the world that this is what I’m meant to do!”

Breaking down the word ‘Lucykle,’ there are three parts: ‘Lu’ represents shouldering the sustainable responsibility of the Lu family; ‘Cycle’ signifies promoting more virtuous cycles in the Lu family’s business; ‘Sparkle’ represents ensuring that such endeavors shine brightly and carry bright hopes for sustainable endeavors in the future. “The combination of these three words embodies the expectation for the Lu family business to shine in every generation, the shout-out for vibrant daily life, and did you notice the clue in the logo?”

“Turning the Lu character 90 degrees signifies finding balance between tradition and innovation, not a 180-degree transformation. It also symbolizes the transformation of the family business, moving forward with market trends while marching towards sustainability side by side with the United Nations!” he firmly stated.

The Most “Heartwarming” Sustainable Waterless Mask, Making Skincare Less Icy

Speaking of injecting sustainability into the brand, Lucykle’s core product is a waterless skincare line. By reducing the demand for water in skincare production, their precise printing technology minimizes water wastage and pollution risks.

“This is something very ‘heartwarming,'” Lucykle explained. “Users can add their own drinking water, ensuring water quality themselves and avoiding unnecessary water usage in the production process. Additionally, adjusting the water temperature changes the mask’s ‘temperature.’ It’s no longer a cold skincare regimen but becomes a companion in your life, a sustainable ally!”

Lucykle’s waterless mask offers consumers a purer and more natural skincare experience while reflecting care for the environment. Lucykle is very particular about product selection, using patented medical-grade materials, passing cytotoxicity tests, and insisting on excluding harmful ingredients like preservatives, alcohol, fragrances, chemical dyes, and heavy metals. The mask’s film is made of plant fibers that can degrade in natural environments. Even the packaging undergoes strict scrutiny, using environmentally friendly TPU materials tested for biocompatibility, with excellent antibacterial properties, reusable, and biodegradable for recycling into other products without issues even with prolonged skin contact, encouraging consumers to join the environmental movement.

“Another point I want to emphasize is my love for animals since childhood. I find it unbearable that many scientific experiments involve animal testing. This is something that won’t happen with us. We won’t harm any animals during the manufacturing process!” Lucykle brought out the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) data sheet. “I confidently say, based on the UN SDG indicators, Lucykle meets several!”

Lucykle: Leading the Way in Sustainable Skincare Brands Starting from ‘Waterless’

In addition to brand spirit and product sustainability, Lucykle also shows enthusiasm in corporate social responsibility: “We donate part of our earnings to World Vision’s water resource initiative, helping to build water facilities in water-scarce areas. This is also part of my commitment to the world regarding ‘water.'”Corporate social responsibility is not just a slogan but must be put into practice.

Lucykle also advocates for a green shopping consumption model, where consumers can experience products at designated outlets and choose to bring their own eco-friendly packaging for purchases. “We hope to inspire people to focus on environmental issues, change lifestyles, and practice the values of sustainability through our products and stories.”

Starting with waterless skincare products, Lucykle advocates for skincare starting from subtraction, enhancing safety and natural ingredients, and is committed to promoting waterless masks and skincare products, providing a more environmentally friendly and effective skincare experience. While enjoying skincare and beauty experiences, people can also protect the Earth. “This is the path Lucykle is taking. This is my name and the name of my brand! I will continue to advance towards being a leader in sustainable skincare, allowing everyone’s skin and the Earth to shine brightly!”

Creating a Sustainable Skincare Ecosystem Together, Nurturing Both People and the Earth

“Starting from the brand spirit of Lucykle, I hope to establish a sustainable skincare ecosystem, inviting more brands and supply chains to join, integrating sustainable skincare lifestyles into industries, products, and channels, bringing a healthier and better life for everyone’s future.”

Lucykle, as a leading brand in sustainable skincare masks, aims to establish a sustainable circular consumption model, returning skincare and consumption to its essence, choosing natural ingredients, and using environmentally friendly or reusable packaging materials to reduce environmental pollution.

“Not just sustainable consumption, but zero waste! Through my brand, I want to tell everyone that sustainability is not just about slogans but practical actions that transform into simple and straightforward lifestyles. Not everyone needs to make grand gestures for sustainability; sustainable living can be light actions or even unintentional, seamlessly integrated into life to save the Earth. When you apply a sustainable mask, the Earth receives your sincerity!”

Lucykle also extends invitations to all sectors. If the virtuous cycle of sustainable skincare ecosystems is to grow larger, more brands and supply chains need to join in, implanting sustainable skincare lifestyles into various industries, brands, products, services, and channels:

“I am Lucykle, and this is also my brand name! The sustainable skincare ecosystem I want to initiate calls for both people and the Earth to nurture together. In addition to external skincare, internal skincare includes different fields such as diet, exercise, psychology, and education. Therefore, this absolutely requires everyone’s participation!”

Lucykle, with its waterless skincare products as the core offering, aims to reduce the demand for water in the production of skincare products. The precision printing technology involved can minimize water wastage and the risk of pollution. (Photography: Lucykle)
