COP29, currently being held in Azerbaijan, has captured global attention. As the founder of SmartNation, Shabnam Mammadova showcased her expertise in leveraging smart technologies to combat climate change at the summit. Her series of innovative solutions has become a driving force for fostering global cooperation and achieving carbon reduction goals.

The SmartNation platform focuses on the development and application of smart technologies. Through data-driven solutions and a technology-sharing platform, it enables nations to address the climate crisis collaboratively. Mammadova emphasised that smart technologies are crucial tools for breaking through traditional barriers to carbon reduction, particularly in precision data and efficient resource management:

“We are at a pivotal moment where technology and environmental protection intersect. Smart technologies are our hope for tackling the climate crisis. They empower us to act faster and more effectively, creating a truly global impact.”

Empowering Global Climate Action with Smart Technologies

Shabnam Mammadova repeatedly highlighted during the summit that smart technologies will form the cornerstone of future climate action. She demonstrated how artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics can assist nations in achieving carbon emissions monitoring and energy optimisation. For instance, using data from intelligent climate monitoring systems, countries can promptly adjust their emission reduction strategies and effectively address sudden environmental challenges.

Additionally, Mammadova’s “Smart Green Cities” initiative has garnered support in several countries, becoming a highlight of the summit. This programme integrates smart transportation, clean energy technologies, and waste-to-resource solutions, not only helping cities achieve carbon neutrality but also improving residents’ quality of life. She believes these solutions go beyond carbon reduction, driving comprehensive and sustainable socio-economic development.

Promoting Technological Equity and International Collaboration

As an advocate for smart technologies, Mammadova pushed for several measures to promote technological equity during the summit. She proposed the establishment of a “Global Smart Climate Technology Sharing Platform” to encourage technology exchange and resource sharing, particularly to provide greater support for developing countries. She emphasised that smart technologies should not serve only a select few nations but should become tools for global collaboration in addressing climate challenges.

Under Mammadova’s leadership, COP29 facilitated multiple technological cooperation agreements. These agreements encompass areas such as smart energy management, intelligent agriculture, and climate data sharing, laying a solid foundation for global collaboration:

“Technological equity is key to achieving global climate goals. Only by narrowing technological gaps can we realise long-term carbon reduction objectives.”

Smart Policy Frameworks Supporting Long-Term Goals

Beyond technological innovation, Shabnam Mammadova actively participated in COP29’s policy-making process, promoting the deep integration of smart technologies and climate policies. Her proposed “Smart Energy Management Plan” became one of the summit’s core topics. The plan aims to maximise energy utilisation through smart grids and energy data management while reducing waste and carbon emissions.

Mammadova also advocated for establishing unified technical standards to ensure broader international adoption of smart technologies. She argued that only by synchronising technological and policy advancements can global climate actions achieve effectiveness and lasting impact. This viewpoint gained widespread support at the summit and has been incorporated into many countries’ future climate action plans.

During COP29, Shabnam Mammadova demonstrated her profound understanding of smart technologies and her unwavering commitment to global collaboration. Through the integration of innovative technologies and policies, she successfully advanced cooperation among nations, making smart technologies a crucial pillar of climate action. Her efforts not only made COP29 a significant milestone in the synergy between smart technologies and climate action but also injected fresh momentum into global climate initiatives.

Shabnam Mammadova’s leadership and vision will have a profound impact on future climate actions, laying a solid foundation for global sustainable development:

“Smart technologies are not merely tools for addressing the climate crisis but bridges that connect global actions. Our goal is to create a green, sustainable future, which is our responsibility to the next generation.”
