The sea is the mother of life, many creatures in it support the entire earth. In today’s report, Anna will share the impact of biodiversity on human beings.

Great white sharks’ extinction triggers human survival issues

“The movie ‘Jaws’ makes us associate negatively with these animals and rationalizes our hunting of them, but the truth is, the existence of great white sharks is essential!”

Anna indicated that the great white sharks are the top of the food chain and rely on hunting unhealthy seals. If these apex predators die, the seals will multiply, which in turn will affect the large number of predation of fish and shrimps in the sea, leading to the collapse of the balance of the food chain , gradually affecting human survival.

“In order to avoid the collapse of the food chain, we must pay attention to the 14th goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Life below Water; literally speaking, this goal has no direct relationship with human beings, but it is related to our survival.”

No deal, no harm

Humans have high demands for fish, which leads to overfishing and food waste, which will affect marine ecology, and in turn affect humans.

Anna said that the conservation of marine ecology needs enterprises to do their part, not only in reducing pollution, but also in conserving biodiversity.

“Corporations can ban certain commodities, such as shark fins, as long as the supply and demand are reduced, they will gradually be withdrawn from the market, and sharks will be saved.”

“Enterprises are powerful enough to influence the world. If there is no sale, there will be no harm. To protect the environment, we must change ourselves.”
