United Arab Emirates – the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) Summit kicked off with grandeur, where King Charles III of the United Kingdom issued a warning to global leaders, emphasizing the lack of global awareness on critical climate signals, leading the world into “dangerous unknown territory” with devastating potential consequences. According to the on-site records of 《The Icons,》 King Charles III called for COP28 to act as a pivotal moment for real transformative action, urging global leaders to take immediate measures to correct the current world trajectory.

King Charles III refers to climate change as a “terrifying global experiment,” where simultaneous alterations to ecological networks far exceed nature’s capacity to respond. Citing this year’s unprecedented global extreme weather events, including wildfires in Canada, floods in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and droughts in East Africa, King Charles III urged COP28 delegates and participants to recognize the critical need for change, stressing the future shaping position the outcomes of the summit will hold.

King Charles III Advocates for Multiple Measures to Accelerate Climate Action

To address the climate crisis, King Charles III called for increased financial support from global public and private funds for climate action while accelerating renewable energy promotion and integration. King Charles III emphasized that the Earth does not belong to us; rather, we belong to the Earth, stating the need for global collaborative efforts on climate action to ensure the well-being of future generations.

COP28 kicked off with grandeur in Dubai this year.

COP28 Signs Damage Fund; Global Leaders Prioritize Agriculture and Food Issues

As COP28 unfolded, global leaders signed a damage fund to assist nations taking the brunt of the climate crisis. Leaders from 134 countries also declared prioritization of food and agriculture issues in their respective climate plans, making history as the first COP to declare food-centric climate action plans. Observers noted the significant breakthrough, sending the strong message of the need for rapid global food systems transformation to maintain the 1.5 degree celsius target.
