COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber: Adaptation Must be at the Heart of Our Action

The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) witnessed a pivotal moment as 118 nations worldwide pledged to triple global renewable energy capacity to ten thousand gigawatts to combat traditional fossil fuel usage. According to the on-site records of 《The Icons,》COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber not only underscored the severity of the climate crisis but also outlined a visionary roadmap towards a sustainable future.

“At some point in each of our lives, we all made a choice, a choice to help carry the burden of a great responsibility, to raise our hands and bear some portion of the weight on our shoulder,” Dr. Sultan opens the speech with.

A New Road

Dr. Al Jaber stressed the importance of fostering international collaboration to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. He called for a united front, transcending geopolitical boundaries, emphasizing the demand for a global response in a global crisis and urged nations to put aside past differences to work towards common goals.

“The new road starts with a decision on the Global Stocktake, a decision that is ambitious, corrects course, and accelerates action to 2030,” said Dr. Sultan.

Dr. Al Jaber stressed the crucial role of innovation and investment in driving the renewable energy transition. Calling for increased research and development to enhance the efficiency of existing technologies and potential new solutions, Dr. Al Jaber emphasized the need for financial institutions and governments to allocate funds to support renewable projects, ensuring successful implementation on a global scale.

Acknowledging the challenges associated with transitioning to renewable energy, Dr. Al Jaber discussed the importance of creating a conducive regulatory environment, providing incentives for businesses and individuals to adopt clean energy, and addressing concerns related to job displacement in traditional energy sectors.
