Utterance for Women from A Nigerian Man, Obafemi Richard Jegede: What A Man Can Do, A Woman Can Do Better!

According to the previous 《Utterance for Women from A Nigerian Man, Obafemi Richard Jegede: What Man Can Do, Woman Can Do!》President and Founder of the W.R.O (Woman Reform Organization), Obafemi Richard Jegede, mentioned the main purpose of establishing the organization is to lift women out of poverty so that they can expand their own future, change the convention of the society and advocate for the issues and thinking. However, the path is full of obstacles, lots are awaiting for them.

If you’re a woman, there’s no use of you!

“Is that the government which caused this situation?” Reporter of《The Icons》asked Obafemi.

“Of course not, if we traced back to the source, gender inequality it is!”

Sometimes, we believe we understand the truth of the instance, depending on its appearance . Indeed, the Nigerian government ignored the issue, but if we dig out what hid behind all this, the major problem isn’t the government but the issue of gender inequality. Wrong thinking and invisible perspectives which shroud not only Nigeria but also the whole world.

“Gender Inequality causes the problems that women have low community status, different pay, ignore of opinions, and their voices will never be heard.”

Equality means no matter if you are a man or a woman, you can have the same pay for work and the same respect for politics. Breaking the status of inequality is why Obafemi founded the W.R.O, in his view, women are the foundation of society.

“I met smart women, powerful women, they can do more than men can do, however due to the unequal society, their abilities have been denied, their chances have been deprived, their values have been relegated. What I’m talking about occurs not only in Africa, I believe it takes place in many countries, too.”

He valued one of the UN SDGs: Reducing Gender Inequality.

“How do the world advance when these potential females are restricted? Hence, the world can only be promoted by our aid.”

Obafemi: W.R.O keeps the safety of women.

Women in Nigeria are lacking equal treatment and government aid, thus W.R.O has become the hope for females.

Obafemi aided women from three aspects:

  1. First of all, offering them adequate jobs and opportunities. W.R.O opened up various workshops for them to work safely.
  2. Then, is education. Obafemi considered that family education in Nigeria is the main reason for inequality, many children learn bad habits from watching their fathers abuse their mothers so when they grow up, they’ll do the same thing. W.R.O will teach them the correct ideas to stop this loop.
  3. The last one is assistance, W.R.O offers financial support to those women with poverty, and safe houses for homeless or abused women.

Obafemi emphasized that equality needs to be across the whole world, if we manage to execute it, the world will definitely be better, that’s why we need to be better!

“I’m a man, but I stand up for women!”
